Chondrodermatitis Nodularis Helicis (CNH) is a common inflammatory condition affecting the helix or antihelix (outer top edge) of the ear. With little tissue padding, this skin area is highly sensitive to irritation; repeated rubbing and pressure can cause a breakdown, tear or small sore. Typically, CNH sores result from preferential side-sleeping (always putting pressure on one ear for the length of a night's sleep), or extended periods of holding a phone tightly against one's ear (e.g.: positioning the phone between one's ear and one's shoulder while talking).
