Boils

Boils, also known as furuncles, are common, deep skin infections that starts in a hair follicle or oil gland. Most are caused by bacteria called staphylococcus. Bacteria enters the body through tiny breaks in the skin, such as cuts or scrapes. Plugged sweat glands, ingrown hairs and puncture wounds such as splinters are all common starting points for infection.
