What Causes Psoriasis?

Terrasil Psoriasis Therapy

Ah, one of the most common questions when it comes to psoriasis. It may be the most common because unfortunately, there is no direct answer.

The cause of psoriasis remains unknown. However, it has been studied and thought to be related to an immune system problem with cells in the body.

In your body, a type of white blood cell, known as “T cell” is able to detect and fight bacteria and viruses in the body. It is believed that those with psoriasis are experiencing their T cells attacking healthy skin cells by accident. This is what causes the dead skin and excess white blood cells.

While researchers may not have a definitive answer to this question, they do have a good understanding of what may trigger psoriasis. Factors include:

  • Skin infections
  • Injuries (bites, cuts, scrapes, burns, etc.)
  • Stress
  • Smoking
  • Cold weather
  • Specific medications
  • Heavy alcohol consumption
