Avoiding a Yeast Infection During Pregnancy

Femmesil Ultra Therapy Ointment

We cannot express enough the importance of taking care of yourself during your pregnancy. More specifically, taking care of yourself “down there.” You may have heard that yeast infections are much more common during pregnancy than any other time in a woman’s life – specifically in the second trimester.

There are a number of reasons why a yeast infection is more prominent during pregnancy. This includes:

  • Hormonal changes
  • Taking hormones
  • Taking antibiotics
  • High blood sugar
  • Semen
  • Douching
  • Vaginal intercourse

As your body continues to change, it may be hard for your body to keep up with chemical changes that affect the vaginal area. Unfortunately, an imbalance can result in fungus.

A yeast infection will not have a negative effect on your pregnancy, but can cause extreme discomfort… on top of all the other discomfort! To best avoid one, you should do the following:

  • Wear cotton underwear for breathability
  • Wipe from front to back
  • Avoid douching
  • Avoid scented products that could cause irritation (bubble bath, tampons, deodorant, lotions, etc.)
  • Add yogurt to your diet
  • Limit sugar intake

If you have concerns about a yeast infection, do not hesitate to contact your doctor. They will be able to steer you in the right direction.
