Signs of a Vaginal or Yeast Infection

Thinking you have a yeast infection? Here are a few signs that may suggest that you are right.

First and foremost, the most common symptom sign of a vaginal yeast infection is extreme itchiness in and around the vagina. This feeling causes great discomfort and irritation. You may find it hard to focus on daily tasks and/or to sleep at night. Aside from itching, signs also include:

  • Burning and redness of vagina and vulva
  • Thick, white vaginal discharge (may resemble cottage cheese)
  • Swelling
  • Pain during sex
  • Pain while peeing
  • Tenderness
  • Soreness
  • Rash

You may or may not have all of the above symptoms (most likely not!) depending on how mild or severe your yeast infection may be.

NOTE: If you notice a strong, fishy odor, you may have a bacterial infection (not a yeast infection). If this is the case, you may want to give your doctor a call.

“Should I give my doctor a call even if it is a yeast infection?”

Yes, it never hurts to give your doctor a call for a proper diagnosis. Signs of a yeast infection can be similar to those of sexually transmitted infections. If you have any doubts in your mind, it is always best to contact a medical professional for diagnosis.
