Homemade Tomato Face Mask for Oily, Acne-Prone Skin

DIY Tomato Face Mask

When you close your eyes and think of the ultimate spa treatment, you might imagine warmth, calming essential oils and soothing citrus smells. As effective and luxurious as traditional treatments may be, any artificial fragrances or ingredients may leave your skin feeling less than perfect. Fortunately, you can find some top-notch (and all-natural) ingredients for a homemade facial mask recipe right in your own vegetable drawer – for a fraction of the cost!

That’s right: tomatoes are more than just staple salad ingredients; they actually have multiple untold benefits for the skin. According to Cosmopolitan magazine, “They fight breakouts, tighten your pores and work like an astringent to deep-clean.”

Vitamins A and C, along with the powerful antioxidant lycopene, help to restore skin health and improve the appearance of dull skin. Lycopene is also shown to reduce signs of aging. Plus, the acidity in a tomato face mask helps loosen dirt from pores, relieving blackheads, acne and oily skin.

Intrigued? Make your own homemade facial mask…

…with just one ingredient, in a few minutes! Here’s how:

  1. Wash and dry your face before starting your tomato mask – you’ll need a blank canvas to work with!
  2. Cut the top off of a medium-sized tomato, peel the skin and reduce the remainder to pulp.
  3. Apply the tomato pulp on your face like you would a regular mask, paying particular attention to any trouble spots.
  4. Leave the tomato facial mask on for 20-30 minutes.
  5. Rinse it off with warm water.

And there you have it!

If you’re in need of some extra exfoliation with your tomato mask, mix a tablespoon or two of granulated sugar in with the tomato pulp before gently applying.
