Man, the cold weather can really suck the moisture right from your skin! Sure, these may be the days of rosy cheeks, but what can you do about the dryness of your skin? There are a number of ways to treat your skin this winter. Let’s count down 10 tips…
#1: Your hands are already cold, now dry? Take care of dry hands by applying moisturizer at least a few times during the day. If you tend to forget, keep a small bottle with you at all times.
#2: Scaly elbows and knees are a sure sign of winter! The key to keeping them both smooth is exfoliating at least once per week and moisturizing everyday.
#3: Prevent having a red nose like Rudolph by applying a warm compress to your nose for a few minutes. You should do this right after coming inside. As for the sniffles? Be sure to use extra-soft tissues to prevent rawness.
#4: Dry, itchy scalp is never a good time. Remember to shower with warm water as opposed to hot. Hot can dry out the scalp quicker. You may also want to consider an anti-dandruff shampoo if you are seeing a great deal of flaking.
#5: Chapped lips can be taken care of with beeswax or oil lip balm. Lanolin, a natural moisturizing compound, helps to keep the skin hydrated while softening.
#6: Wear SPF… still! No matter what season, SPF is important to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Make sure you wear it on your face, especially.
#7: Keep your body and skin hydrated. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day can make a huge difference in how your skin reacts to the change in temps.
#8: Opt for a “heavier” facial lotion/moisturizer in the winter months. Each season will require a different type of product!
#9: Wear your favorite pair of gloves – as often as possible! Gloves will not only keep your digits warm, but unexposed from the cold air. Bonus points if you moisturize and THEN seal it in.
#10: Tough feet? Treat your feet before going to bed. Buff away callouses, exfoliate, and apply a thick moisturizer. Trap it in by throwing on a pair of socks and calling it a night!
By following the above tips, you can maintain your healthy glow throughout the wintery months. Now you can go out and enjoy the snow!
