Piercing Care 101

May 19th, 2015 | Skin care

Congratulations on your new piercing! We’re sure you are excited and happy with the latest addition. If you are only a day or two into having a piercing, you should realize that cleaning and caring for it is the number one priority. If you are not diligent about this, you may be dealing with an infection much sooner than later. That is the last thing you want!

We have a few tips to share that can help you heal up as soon as possible. Take a look:

  • Gently wash around piercing with water and soap. If the piercing artist gave you a specific product to use, be sure to use it!
  • Keep a fresh piercing out of soaking water, such as a pool or the ocean. If necessary, use a waterproof bandage to cover up.
  • Avoid the use of alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or other drying liquids.
  • Refrain from over-cleaning, which can lead to irritation.
  • Avoid direct contact on your fresh piercing. Think of it as a fresh wound!
  • Avoid personal care products on or around your piercing, especially if they are scented.
  • Refrain from changing jewelry too early. If you must take it out, be aware that the fresh hole can close up.

By following the tips above, you can heal properly and quickly. The sooner you heal, the sooner you can enjoy your new piercing.
