Modest Summer Style

June 18th, 2015 | Eczema, Psoriasis, Seasonal

Luckily, summer can bring temporary relief from some skin conditions. And just the right amount of sun is healthy; it’s recommended that 5-15 minutes of sun exposure a day can help the symptoms of some skin conditions.

But it’s all about moderation, and it’s still a good idea to keep skin covered especially when dealing with eczema and psoriasis. Protecting your skin from over exposure can make finding the right summertime fashion difficult. No one wants to be wrapped up in layers while everyone else is in tank tops and shorts!

Well, we’ve got you covered, literally, with this fun and seasonally appropriate outfit.

Maximum Coverage Sunglasses

Big sunglasses do more than make you look like a glamorous movie star- they also seriously protect your eyes. Psoriasis and eczema occurrences on the face can have serious negative side effects to your vision and eyes. Minimize the risk by wearing over-sized sunnies.

Soft Cotton Sailor Top

Cotton is natural and less likely to cause irritation to the skin. In the summer months, covering skin conditions with clothing may result in over-heating, making the condition worse. However cotton is good choice in the summer; it is breathable and allows air to flow to the skin, keeping it cool and comfortable, even in warm climates.

Lightweight Scarf

If your neck is visibly suffering from a skin condition, a scarf may be the answer to keep away prying eyes and UV rays. You’ll want to find a lightweight option, to avoid looking like your dressed for winter. A bright color will add extra flare to any outfit.

Pretty Nails

Do you think having a skin condition means you should avoid getting manicures and pedicures? NO WAY! Nail polish, artificial nails, and regular trips to the nail salon may improve nail health. Speak with your doctor or dermatologist about your specific case, but for many, professional techniques and nail polish protect fragile nails.

Bright Pants

Many would prefer to keep their legs concealed year round, while others sport short-shorts. If you prefer to keep them covered, but still look modern, try bright pants. We chose bright blue, cotton-blend skinny pants for this outfit, but wide leg trousers in vibrant colors or prints will add a touch of summer to any look.

Pineapple Sneakers

OOoph! The feet are prone to so many issues that make wearing sandals and open-toe styles impossible. Luckily, summer sneakers are right on trend. We like these pineapple printed kicks paired with extra soft cotton socks to keep feet healthy and protected all summer long.

Finishing Pieces

Fun accessories, a carry-all tote, and protective sunblock makes this a complete look to keep your skin concealed and comfortable.
