Men’s Health Education & Awareness Month

June 11th, 2014 | Nutrition and Health, Seasonal

Another observance to celebrate this month! June is recognized as Men’s Health Month. It is widely celebrated across the country with free screenings, health fairs, health education, and more.

As with most health-related observances, the goal behind Men’s Health Month is to raise awareness of preventable health issues. It is a way to encourage men and boys alike to detect and treat health issues and diseases before it becomes a much larger health concern. Unfortunately, the sad truth is that men are nearly 25% less likely than women to have visited a physician within the past year.

Now that June has arrived, it is time to get involved. There are a number of ways for you to show your support this month—male or female! Here are just a few ideas…

  • Plan a “Wear Blue” event with a group of your closest friends and family members! Simply wear the color or you can go as far as asking for donations. Be creative with it!
  • Plan a fundraiser in your town, from a 5k walk to a bake sale.
  • Plan a fitness day with loved ones or coworkers. Get active for the day – it is not only healthy, but will be fun.
  • Donate to a health-related cause that is close to you.

REMEMBER: Celebrating Men’s Health Education and Awareness can be as simple as scheduling a doctor’s appointment. After all, that is the heart of the month, right? Hey ladies, and do not think that this is a “Men Only” suggestion. You can certainly do something special for the men in your life, even if it is just scheduling a much-needed appointment!

Men’s Health Month is not only educational , but can be fun. How will you get involved? Be sure to share your stories and any events you will be taking part in… we would love to hear! Tweet us!
