Well there is a little more to it than that, but not much more. Since we breathe every day, we sort of take the action for granted. We rarely get the full benefits from breathing because we often aren’t doing it properly.
We tend to take weak, lazy breaths that originate from the chest rather than the diaphragm. (A recent study out of Sweden states 83 percent of adults breath with their chests.) Poor breathing habits restrict oxygen intake, which is reportedly leads to raised blood pressure, sleep problems, dull skin, posture problems, lack of energy, anxiety and, yes, weight gain.
This is why activities like yoga put so much emphasis on proper breathing.

So let’s get down to it. How can you lose a little weight by breathing?
Deeper breathing sends more oxygen to your cells and your muscles, giving them the energy they need to perform bodily functions. As your body takes in more oxygen, your metabolism works more effectively at chemically breaking down the fat in your body. Your digestive system will also become more relaxed and be better able to process the food you eat and get rid of waste.
Effective breathing provides your body with higher levels of energy. Have you noticed that when you’re tired, you often eat more? Improved breathing will give you the energy you require without needing to snack all day long.
Regularly focusing on your breathing brings greater control over your mind and body and can ultimately improve the issues mentioned above. You’ll be more relaxed, improve your circulation and metabolism, have better posture and more radiant skin. You may also experience increased control of your mood, which can often be a reason for overeating.
