7 Healthy New Year’s Resolutions

With 2015 on the horizon, you may be thinking about what your New Year’s Resolution should be. Most people simply state that their resolution is to “lose weight.” While this is a great ambition, it may be best to break it down. By making smaller, simple resolutions, you may be able to stick with it much better!

To help you brainstorm, we have put together several healthy New Year’s resolutions. Check them out!

#1: Eat less meat. Whether you are ready to nix meat all together or vow to hold “Meatless Mondays,” this is a great start to a healthier lifestyle. Incorporate more fruits and veggies – and do not be afraid to go beyond potatoes and spinach!

#2: Quit smoking. This is a biggie for many people and it is a GREAT resolution. Take baby steps or do it cold turkey – whichever way you believe you will be most likely to stick with it is the right way for you! Learn more about how your skin will benefit from no smoking, as well.

#3: Exercise at least three times per week. Instead of stating, “I want to lose weight,” start with “I will exercise more!” Join a gym or start with an exercise DVD in the comfort of your own home.

#4: Volunteer your time. How is this healthy, you ask? Happiness is good for your health, and volunteering brings happiness. A 2010 study found that people with positive emotions were about 20% less likely than others to have a heart attack or develop a disease.

#5: Drink less. If you are known to enjoy a drink or two every night, it may be time to cut back a bit. Alcohol in excess can negatively affect the brain, leading to depression, memory loss, or even cancers.

#6: Get more shut eye. A good night’s sleep is at least 7-8 hours. Schedule your sleep and you may be able to stick with this healthy resolution. More energy = more productive = more happiness!

#7: Eat fewer processed foods. Stay away from the packaged foods packed with GMOs and opt for fresh, clean food. What do we mean by “clean?” Fruits, veggies, grains, nuts… aka the non-processed!

Whatever you choose to improve on in 2015, we truly wish you the best results and success. Good luck and have a wonderful New Year!
