An Imperfect Face May Prevent You From Getting That Job, study says

November 16th, 2011 | General News, Self Improvement

Facial scars, or even birthmarks, can lead to poor ratings during job interviews, according to a new study by researchers at Rice University and the University of Houston.

This study tracked the movement of an interviewers eyes to gauge their level of distraction during the interview.

When we have a conversation with someone, we alternate looking at the eyes and mouth of the other person.

By tracking how often the interviewers eyes strayed away from this pattern and asking follow-up questions, it was found that the more the interviewer was distracted by facial imperfections, the less information they could recall from the interview. Since the interviewer can’t recall as much information from the interview with the person with facial imperfections, they ultimately received a lower rating.

Have you experienced scarring? Learn what condition may have caused it—and how to treat it.

This should be lesson to all of us. We all have issues with our skin. Even celebrities can’t always have perfect skin. Do your best to look beyond the surface of the people you meet.
