Caring for Cracked Hands This Winter

February 24th, 2015 | Natural Remedies, Seasonal, Skin care

Cold hands are bad enough during the winter. Now, your skin is cracking? Instead of suffering cracked, dry hands all winter, it is important to take care of the situation. There are a number of tips and treatments available that can get you on the road to healthier winter skin. This week, we want to share some with you!

#1: Refrain from washing with hot water. Believe it or not, the hotter the water is, the dryer your skin may be. Instead, wash with lukewarm water to avoid stripping natural oil from your hands.

#2: Use lotion, cream, or soap with hydrating ingredients. Ingredients to look for: honey, glycerin, jojoba seed oil, olive oil, beeswax, coconut oil, shea butter.

#3: Protect your hands when outdoors by wearing a pair of warm, fleece gloves. Bonus Tip: Lotion up before you put your gloves on to trap moisture in.

#4: Do not continue to wear wet gloves. If your gloves are either wet or damp, it is best to opt for a new pair. The wet can irritate your skin and cause itching, cracking, and sores.

#5: Avoid harsh products in the winter, especially those with alcohol-based toners or astringents. These products will strip your hands of its natural oil.
