April is Rosacea Awareness Month

April 21st, 2014 | Community Outreach, General News, Rosacea

The month of April is observed as Rosacea Awareness Month. Were you aware?

The National Rosacea Society (NRS) has designated this month to educate the public on the impact of this chronic and widespread facial disorder. According to the NRS, “this disorder is estimated to affect more than 16 million Americans.”

Rosacea is a chronic illness that affects facial skin, causing red inflamed patches. It typically affects those aged 30-60 and is more common in women than men. Unfortunately, the cause of rosacea is unknown. Most medial professionals attribute the condition to hereditary and environmental factors.

The goal of this month is to make sure that those with the condition seek medical help before it worsens. Unfortunately, there are people who may not understand what their condition may be. Often times, it is overlooked and therefore, untreated. When untreated, it can worsen over time.

There are a number of ways to support NRS and their initiatives. Here are just a few…

  • Follow the NRS on Facebook for updates on rosacea and research. If you know someone who may suffer from this disease, be sure to share updates with them and encourage them to “like” the page as well.
  • Donate to the NRS to support ongoing medical research
  • Share posts and information from the NRS blog on your own social channels.
  • Share the official “Rose” logo on your social networks (the logo used in this post).
