2012: What It Means For You

January 4th, 2012 | Nutrition and Health, Self Improvement

The Mayan calendar ends December 21, 2012. Some think the world will come to a fiery end. Others think universal forces will wipe out all electronics. There are even some who think 2012 will bring about a consciousness shift among humans, creating a greater need for right brain thinkers over left brain thinkers.

Until all that happens, remember that it is a new year, and that means a fresh start!

Forget about all those extra desserts you had over the holidays.

Forget that relationship that went south.

Forget anything that may bring you down in the new year and start looking forward.

Here are just a few simple promises you can make to yourself to guarantee a healthier 2012:

  • Drink lots of water to keep your skin and body hydrated.
  • Eat well-balanced meals with lots of fresh, raw fruits and vegetables to get the vitamins your body needs. This will help your body fight off infections and germs during the cold and flu season.
  • Enjoy the outdoors and fresh air. Take a short walk during lunch or after dinner. A 2003 Swedish study found that people who ran in parks felt 15 percent more restored than those who ran on treadmills or urban streets.
  • Relax and have fun. Make it a point to not stress about the little things this year. Most circumstances are out of our control, but we can always control how they make us feel and how we respond. Just take a few deep breaths when something is frustrating you and say, “Is this really bothering that much?” 9 times out of 10, I’m betting the answer is “No.”
Welcome to 2012!
